You were the first car I remember my parents buying. I remember my parents searching for you, how you were the last 2006 on the lot. You were fully loaded, and everything my 7 year old self could dream of. DVD Player??? 3rd row seat??? You were also the first car I ever drove. There was mention of buying a new car and giving me you. You gave us 138K problem free miles, and until this morning you looked pretty damn good still too. But some asshat in a Dodge Stratus took you out, even though by law it was my mom, the Dodge must have been going too fast. As much as you were a beige (green) box, you were the first car I had a connection too. You were the first car I cared about. Even though you're just a car, now just a mangled mess of metal and airbag, and being as smart and logical as I am, I can't help but to believe that you cared about us, keeping us safe and comfortable on long trips (particularly out west last summer). Today you did the greatest thing any car could do. You saved my mom's life, and for that I'll always be grateful.

She walked away and is now out for dinner with our neighbors.

That is 'where the rubber meets the road'. Nice piece - positive thoughts. I had a Honda Accord save my wife several years ago.

Even though you're just a car
It's never just a car, to an enthusiast, and especially not when it's freighted with memories and firsts like that. Glad it was only the car in this incident, though, and that your mom's okay.
